St. Andrew Lutheran Church launches Project Connect

In preparation to observe the LHM Sunday on February 22, St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Kingston is pleased to launch the Project Connect on Sunday February 15, with support from the Lutheran Hour Ministries office.

Project Connect is a booklet ministry program of Lutheran Hour Ministries that provides congregation an additional means of guidance and support to visitors, members, or others in your community.

Whereas most of project booklets has been great outreach tools in Jamaica in the past years, the Project Connect Booklet Display was yet to be part of the whole. Pastor Obot Ite who received the display kit and additional books for Jamaica office and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Kingston is thankful to God for this new addition to the Project Connect in Jamaica. Worshippers in the service saw the beauty and effectiveness of the display kit for booklets that were usually stored on bookshelves and not well displayed to engage visitors and seekers with relevant booklets of interest. “This shall be a great and wonderful outreach tool when taken to the community”, remarked Ite.

Two visitors in the worship service were immediately engaged with the Project Connect at the close of the service.

St. Andrew Congregation at 14th Anniversary Service

Recently St. Andrew Lutheran Congregation in Kingston has celebrated the 14th Anniversary Service. This service of thanksgiving which took place at the present worship centre on 26 Lindsay Crescent was held on Sunday February 8, 2009.

According to Pastor Ite, “We are gathering this morning to thank God specially for the grace He has bestowed upon this congregation and the people of Jamaica for the past 14 years. As this congregation gathered around His Word and Sacraments for the past 14 years, a great number of people has been connected with God’s love. Many also came and left without receiving the love of God through Jesus Christ for they came with wrong motives“. And he stated: “If you are here this morning, perhaps was there then, will you also leave in like manner? I pray you find the love of Christ for your life.”

It was great to have in attendance some of the members who were part of the fifteen worshippers when the ministry began the first formal worship under the leadership of missionary Erhart Bauer on Sunday February 5, 1995. Many other missionaries, volunteers, mission teams and supporters had served these past years.

Pastor Ite in recalling what this little flock had past through these years thanked God for the labors of love His messengers and servants at various times had shown to this congregation in ministering to His saints. The pastor in his message “Prepare Your Mind for Action” charged worshippers to prepare themselves for great things the Lord is about to do and will continue to do through their witnesses. He emphasised the significance of the 14th Anniversary as double spiritual perfection which the congregation has undergone. Worshippers were thankful to God for the grace received through the Word and Sacrament.

Among the hymns sung were: “The Church’s One Foundation”, “We are often Tossed and Driven”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. Prayers were offered for all the past workers in Jamaican field, presents workers and missions supporters, the congregation activities and the nation Jamaica. Following the divine service, members gathered for lunch. A special anniversary cake was cut and meals were gladly shared by all the worshippers.

Project JOEL begins in Jamaica

Nearly ten months following the visit of the LHM Latin America Area Counselor, Ken Peterson to Jamaica, most of the outreach ideas shared during the visit are becoming realities. Lutheran Ministries in Jamaica is hitting the last of the four envisioned goals of doubling the the number of actively worshipping people in St. Andrew Congregation, equipping at least 20 saints of the congregation using the “Equipping the Saints” seminar, so they could bring others to the Lord, hold a four-day rally, initiating an outreach to youth using Project JOEL as a model and form a team of 20 youth by the end’s end. The first three goals were partially touched before the end of last year.

Join us to thank God for the breakthrough in initiating Project JOEL this week in Jamaica and for its first participants in Mona High School. Mona High Schools is the first Schools in Jamaica to embrace this project.The preparation and planning has taken strenuous steps, from meeting with the principal, staff, and parents/teachers in different occasions to sorting and gathering appropriate materials and resources.

We trust God for what He alone shall accomplish in the lives of these young people participating in the project. Pray for God to bless these youth as the faithfully attend to the seminar sessions.

Women Fellowship: New Leadership Impacts in SALC

Women Fellowship in St. Andrew Lutheran Church has taken new impetus through the leadership of Sister Jewel Brown as Chairperson. Ms Brown voluntered in October this year to take up the leadership of the Fellowship. This is the first time Jewel has exercised her faith that far in assuming this position of high responsibility in the fellowship. Together with all the ladies in the congregation, they are ready for actions. It is amazing to see what these beloved women had accomplished in the past two months. All is now set for greater impact on worship and fellowship in the coming year. At the last meeting, they were all looking forward to a successful harvest thanksgiving Service.
